SLT Laser
A safe, effective, and minimally invasive laser treatment designed to lower eye pressure in glaucoma patients.
Overview
Selective Laser Trabeculoplasty (SLT) is a proven laser treatment for glaucoma that helps lower intraocular pressure by enhancing the eye’s natural drainage system.
Using gentle, low-energy laser pulses, SLT targets the drainage tissue within the eye (the trabecular meshwork) to improve fluid outflow and reduce pressure.
SLT can be used as an effective alternative to daily eye drops, or used alongside existing treatments for better pressure control. With minimal discomfort, no need for incisions, and a great safety record, it provides a long-lasting, well-tolerated solution for many glaucoma patients.
What is the success rate?
SLT is an effective treatment for many glaucoma patients, but it may not be suitable for all types of the condition. Your clinician will assess your individual case and advise whether SLT is the best option for you.
Studies show that around 70% of patients experience a significant reduction in eye pressure following SLT. However, as the effects can gradually wear off over time, the procedure can be safely repeated if needed.
If SLT doesn’t provide the desired level of pressure control, your clinician may recommend glaucoma eye drops or alternative treatments to help protect your vision and manage the condition effectively.
At SEON Vision, we are here to guide you through every step of your journey - from your initial consultation to post-treatment care. Our expert team will ensure you understand your options, feel confident in your decision, and receive the highest standard of personalised care.

What to expect
-
We’ll begin by checking your vision and eye pressure, and you’ll receive eye drops to help prevent any pressure increase after the procedure. In some cases, we may also use a drop to constrict your pupil - this can cause a temporary ache around the forehead, but it wears off quickly.
-
To keep you comfortable, we’ll apply numbing eye drops before placing a special contact lens on your eye to help guide the laser. The procedure itself is gentle and usually takes just 5-10 minutes.
-
We’ll check your eye pressure about an hour after the procedure. If everything looks as expected, you’ll be able to go home and return to normal activities straight away. We’ll arrange a follow-up appointment for 6-8 weeks later to check your progress and ensure the best possible outcome.
