Mr Alastair Porteous

Mr Alastair Porteous is an Ophthalmic Surgeon with a specialist interest in glaucoma and cataracts. An experienced cataract surgeon, he can undertake cataract surgery with premium toric intraocular lenses.
About
Mr Porteous is currently clinical lead for Ophthalmology at the Royal Eye Unit, Kingston and Richmond NHS Foundation Trust, where he holds a substantive consultant contract. He has previously held a locum consultant contract at the Hillingdon Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust, based at the Western Eye Hospital, London.
Mr Porteous undertook a fellowship in glaucoma at the Western Eye Hospital, London, and also completed his ophthalmic specialty training in London, predominantly at Moorfields Eye Hospital and Western Eye Hospital.
With a keen interest in all aspects of glaucoma management, he is experienced in glaucoma laser procedures including selective laser trabeculoplasty, YAG laser peripheral iridotomy, and MicroPulse transscleral cyclodiode. He is also experienced in minimally invasive glaucoma surgery techniques, including iStent and endocyclophotocoagulation, as well as more traditional filtration surgery.
Mr Porteous has successfully published in a number of medical ophthalmic journals and has presented at multiple national and international meetings. He has a keen interest in training and education, having undertaken an undergraduate teaching fellowship at Moorfields Eye Hospital, completed a postgraduate certificate in medical education with Dundee University, and held a position on the Training the Trainers sub-committee at the Royal College of Ophthalmologists.
