DSAEK
DSAEK is a cutting-edge corneal transplant that offers fast recovery and clear, crisp visual outcomes.
Overview
At SEON Vision, we specialise in DSAEK (Descemet's Stripping Automated Endothelial Keratoplasty), an advanced corneal transplant procedure designed to treat conditions like Fuchs’ dystrophy and bullous keratopathy.
Unlike traditional full-thickness transplants, DSAEK only replaces the damaged inner layer of the cornea, leaving the outer layers intact. This minimally invasive approach results in faster recovery, lower risk of rejection, and improved vision outcomes.
If you're experiencing cloudy vision or corneal issues, DSAEK could be the solution to restore clarity and comfort to your sight.
How it can help
At SEON Vision, our experienced team will assess your condition and help determine if DSAEK is the right choice for you. Here's how DSAEK can help:
Replaces only the damaged inner layer of the cornea and leaves the outer layers intact
Treats a range of corneal conditions caused by endothelial cell dysfunction including:
Fuchs' endothelial dystrophy
Bullous keratopathy
Pseudophakic bullous keratopathy
Corneal endothelial dysfunction
Your surgeon will help determine if DSAEK is best for your specific condition. At SEON Vision, we’re dedicated to restoring your vision with the most appropriate and minimally invasive treatment.
Are you a candidate?
If you are experiencing any of the following, DSAEK may be a suitable option:
You have Fuchs’ endothelial dystrophy
You suffer from bullous keratopathy
You experience pseudophakic bullous keratopathy
You have corneal endothelial dysfunction
You have not had success with other treatments for corneal conditions
You want to avoid traditional full-thickness corneal transplants
Benefits of DSAEK
Fast recovery
Since only the inner layer of the cornea is replaced, DSAEK is minimally invasive and heals quicker than traditional full-thickness transplants.
Low risk of rejection
As the procedure only involves the inner corneal layer, the risk of rejection is significantly reduced.
Clearer vision
Patients often experience clearer vision, with many seeing noticeable improvements within months, compared to the slower recovery associated with older transplant techniques.
Minimal scarring
With DSAEK, there is a lower likelihood of scarring, reducing the risk of vision impairment over time.

What to expect
-
Once we ensure DSAEK is the right option for you, we will put together and discuss your treatment plan. This is when you’ll receive instructions for surgery day, including any necessary eye drops or medications.
-
During the DSAEK procedure, a small incision is made at the edge of your cornea. Using precise, specialised instruments, the damaged endothelial layer is gently removed.
-
After the procedure, you’ll be given a protective contact lens to shield your eye during the early healing phase. You will also be prescribed eye drops to prevent infection and reduce inflammation.
For the first few days, you’ll be asked to lie flat – this is to help the graft settle. Most patients experience significant vision improvement within a few months, though full healing may take up to a year.
At SEON Vision, we provide expert aftercare and personalised support to guide you through a smooth recovery.
